LISTEN: Kendrick Lamar drops new album, featuring U2, Rihanna & James Blake
King Kendrick is back.
If 2015's To Pimp A Butterfly was a self-reflective, cinematic response to being an ghetto-institutionalised black male in America, DAMN. feels like an urgent address to country and mortality.
From the strangely foreboding parable on 'BLOOD.' to the eclectic twists of 'XXX' (where Bono makes a thankfully understated appearance), DAMN. features Kung-Fu Kenny on the top of his game lyrically, rapping and preaching over strange new cuts, condensed into pithy single-word-titled songs.
This being Good Friday and Kendrick being one for dropping biblical allusions, people are already speculating that another album is imminent. In 'The Heart Pt. 4' he raps “dropped one classic, came right back”; does this mean Easter Sunday is the return?
We wait and see...
