LISTEN: Azealia Banks' 'Harlem Shake' remix
Unfortunately, however, the star can't steer clear of controversy...
To compensate for her ‘Yung Rapunxel’ single being delayed until next month – it had been due in time for Valentine’s Day – Azealia Banks has posted a killer remix of Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’.
Azealia being Azealia the track is mired in controversy with the aforementioned 23-year-old producer mate of Diplo’s claiming that he hadn’t approved the re-working of his signature hit.
Insisting that he had given her permission, Banks called Baauer a “pussy” and “faggot” on Twitter, which resulted in censure from The Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and the same heated online debate that followed her use of the f-word when having a pop before Christmas at Perez Hilton.
“Men in hip-hop beef and say faggot and all kinds of other craziness but I get shunned for doing it,” she maintains. “This situation is a perfect example of how difficult it is to be a female who raps. As if I would be a fucking homophobe.... As if I even gave a fuck what you did with your dick…”
On a more positive note, she’s been spending some quality studio time with Ariel Pink.
“Ariel Pink is the realest,” Banks enthuses. “I got so much life from that man yesterday... a true artist.”
‘Yung Rapunxel’ – a “game-changer” according to Azealia – will precede the release of her much-anticipated Broke With Expensive Taste album.
