Lisa Lambe - Hiding Away
Excellent solo outing for Celtic woman
A one-time member of hugely popular Celtic Women ensemble, Lambe – also a stage actress – has already proven herself a versatile performer and artist. On her debut album she travels to Nashville to work with a crew of top-drawer session musicians on a carefully chosen selection of songs.
The backing throughout is impeccable, with sympathetic arrangements and production, which results is an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable collection. From the gently-caressing ‘Heaven’ to the jaunty ‘Turn To Me’, Lambe’s relaxed vocal style shines through. The faintly jazzy and sumptuously melodic ‘Ain’t Love Something’ is the kind of late-night radio-friendly fare that made Norah Jones a star, while her take on the Paul Brady/Matraca Berg tune ‘It’s Gotta Be Love’ recalls Mary Black in her prime.
Her own ‘Hiding Away’ (written with Gavin Murphy) showcases a songwriting talent to be reckoned with; elsewhere, the more upbeat ‘Knock Knock’ written by Jack Savoretti demonstrates her ease with a straight country sound. An excellent debut.
Key Track - 'Everytime I Fall in Love'
