Leonardo Di Caprio Definitely Not Raped by a Bear in The Revenant
...just in case you were concerned
In the run-up to the release of a new film, film studios and PR companies send out many press releases advertising their new movie. Not many of these press releases involve the disclaimer that their film definitely, absolutely does not involve Leonardo Di Caprio getting raped by a bear. But so went the latest statement from Fox about Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s upcoming drama The Revenant.
Yesterday, a report hit Drudge Report claiming that the film sees Di Caprio’s character suffer a violent rape by a bear, and that audience members had walked out of the film in disgust. This story, of course, sent the internet into a bizarre frenzy. Some journalists and film industry reps came forward to attest that his character is merely mauled by a bear, but the internet in its tenacious wonder just would not let go of the rumour.
So Fox Studios were forced to release a truly unique statement saying that the Drudge Report was incorrect.
“As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs,” a Fox spokesperson said. “There is clearly no rape scene with a bear.”
If you want to see for yourself though, The Revenant is set for release on January 15.
