Lemoncello announce new album Perfect Place
The Dublin-based duo have shared a new single and music video for 'Articulate Animal' to accompany the album announcement.
Lemoncello have announced their sophomore album Perfect Place, set for release Friday, May 8 via Claddagh Records.
The folk duo, comprised of Laura Quirke and Claire Kinsella, worked with Cabinteely producer Ruth O’Mahony Brady (Gorillaz, Lisa O’Neill) to create the album.
"In the past I think I’ve abandoned songs a little bit too soon," Quirke said of Perfect Place. "I hid behind flowery language instead of getting to the heart of the thing."
"With this album we wanted to express things that are difficult and messy. Sometimes to be clear emotionally you need to be abstract lyrically but you can’t be afraid to take everything off and just stand there completely vulnerable."
The duo have released the album's opening track 'Articulate Animal' to accompany the announcement. The song was first developed during a five-minute creative writing exercise at a workshop, where Quirke settled on the central lyric: "Wish I could stop telling myself things".
In a press release, Lemoncello called the track "a manifestation of shedding layers to get to the heart of things.”
The music video for 'Articulate Animal' depicts Quirke and Kinsella shedding unnecessary clothing and building a fort in a school gymnasium. Watch below.
Cormac Begley plays concertina on the track, while The Frames' Joe Doyle and Basciville's Lorcan Byrne contribute bass and drums, respectively.
'Articulate Animal' follows the release of single 'Meet Me Halfway', which will also appear on Perfect Place.
Quirke and Kinsella, who are currently accompanying Ye Vagabonds on tour, will premiere the album in Liverpool before a headline show in London. Later this summer, they'll perform at Night & Day, Deer Shed, and WOMAD.
