KNEECAP call on fans to help reach crowdfunding target for Mo Chara's legal assistance
Since their Coachella set in April, KNEECAP have come under fire for their pro-Palestinian activism.
Irish rap trio KNEECAP are calling on fans to donate money for band member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh's legal costs.
Better known by his stage name Mo Chara, Ó hAnnaidh has been charged with a single count of terrorism for allegations that he possessed a Hezbollah flag. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in June and was released on unconditional bail. He is due back in court August 20.
"We believe that these charges, classified under 'terrorism,' are not only unfounded but also pose a dangerous threat to the freedom of expression everywhere who dare to voice their perspectives and challenge societal norms," said the group on their crowdjustice site. "The charges brought against him could set a chilling precedent that stifles creative freedom and dissuades artists from speaking out."
They have currently raised £35,709 with a goal of £50,000 (57,674.25 Euros).
Those interested in donating can find more information here.
