Kevin Abstract announces new solo album Blanket
Blanket is set to be Kevin Abstract's first solo outing since the break-up of Brockhampton last year...
Brockhampton founder Kevin Abstract has announced a new solo record, Blanket.
The upcoming release is set to be the rapper and singer-songwriter's fourth studio album, preceding his breakthrough debut MTV1987 and 2019's ARIZONA Baby.
Blanket marks Abstract's first solo record since the breakup of hip hop boy band, Brockhampton — who disbanded in January of last year, after a performance at Coachella. Made over a 3-month span in early 2023, alongside Abstract's longtime collaborator and producer Romil Hemnani, and multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham (Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red), Blanket was undoubtedly a collaborative effort.
Title track 'Blanket,' released last week alongside a self-directed music video.
Reaching for harsher sounds and fusing the lyricism of modern hip hop with the grit of rock music; the new album sees Abstract assume a wide range of musical influences, most notably drawing from the fuzz-driven soundscapes of '90s alt-rock.
“I wanted to make, like, a Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, Modest Mouse type of record,” Kevin said. “but I wanted it to hit like a rap album...”
Abstract's album announcement arrives alongside another bizarre one-minute teaser clip entitled 'GUM,' that gives a taste of the new music to come.
Blanket is set to release on November 3rd via Video Store/RCA Records.
