Kaytranada wins Canada's prestigious Polaris prize
$50,000 CAD – and the all-important gong – go to the electronic musician for his 99.9%
While there's a temptation to scrawl Grimes wuz robbed! on the walls of the Canadian Embassy, caps are well and truly doffed to Kaytranada, who last night was named winner of the Polaris Prize.
The Canadian equivalent of the Choice Prize, 99.9% was selected as the album of the year over Art Angels by the aforementioned Ms Boucher, as well as records from the likes of Black Mountain, Pup, and Carly Rae Jepsen.
The winning electronic musician and producer, real name Louis Kevin Celestin, lands a cheque for $50,000 CAD for his troubles, but it's the prestige that really counts; he follows in the footsteps of artists like Arcade Fire, Feist and Caribou in collecting the prize.
