Kate Bush commissions 52 artists for War Child fundraiser
The fundraiser was inspired by David Bowie.
Kate Bush has invited 52 artists to create pieces for a fundraiser supporting War Child.
She commissioned the visual artists to create works in response to the lyric "If I only could, I'd make a deal with God", from her 1985 hit 'Running Up That Hill'.
The fundraiser is called Sound and Vision, named after David Bowie's 1977 track. Bowie curated a fundraising exhibition for the charity in 1994 called Little Pieces from Big Stars, which was the inspiration for the first Sound & Vision fundraiser last year.
All works will be up for sale in an online auction from October 28 to November 13, with bids beginning at €100. Funds raised will be donated to War Child, who work to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children living in war zones.
“It is more important than ever we support War Child and their invaluable work providing immediate aid to children caught in conflict all over the world including in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and Syria," said Bush in a statement (via The Guardian). "Projects like Sound & Vision harness the power of art and music to make a real difference to children living through war.”
Contributing artists include Corbin Shaw, Susie Hamilton, Maggi Hambling, Peter Doig and Charlie Calder-Potts, Britain’s youngest female official war artist.
An exhibition of the works will take place at Iconic Images Gallery in Piccadilly, London, from November 4-8.
The online auction can be accessed here.
