Guitar "smashed up" by Liam Gallagher and 'Wonderwall' guitar go to auction
Oasis are set to perform at Wembley Stadium this weekend before heading to Japan.
Two iconic Oasis guitars will be going up for auction.
The guitar that Liam Gallagher "smashed up," according to Noel Gallagher, on the night that the group broke up will be up for grabs.
Additionally, the guitar used to record 'Wonderwall' will go to auction.
In 2009, at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, the brothers had a backstage argument leading to the smashing of the 1960s red Gibson ES-355 guitar.
"It was also my #1 favourite guitar," said Noel in a note accompanying the instrument. He said he use it for writing, recording and live shows.
After their fight in Paris, Noel announced the band's split on their website.
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight,” he said. “People will write and say what they like but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
The guitar is estimated to go for up to £500,000 (about €572,500).
Additionally, Noel's Takamine FP460SC acoustic guitar used to record 'Wonderwall' is going for sale along with about 150 other Oasis items as part of the Propstore auction.
The famous guitars will be sold alongside other iconic items including John Lennon’s tinted glasses, estimated to get £300,000 (about €343,500), and Michael Jackson’s 'Smooth Criminal' white fedora, set to go for £80,000 (about €91,600).
