John Grant makes solo Dublin bow
The former Czars mainman is here in May.
Former Czars singer-songwriter John Grant plays the Dublin Button Factory on May 3, with tickets priced €19.50 available on Friday January 21.
He’ll be performing tracks from Queen Of Denmark, the album he recorded with Midlake inbetween waiting tables and studying for his certificate in Russian medical interpreting. As you do.
“For me, there isn’t a word of filler on the album,” the cunning linguist enthuses. “I’ve made a very clear statement about where I’m at and who I am as a person, and that’s one reason I’m so proud of it, that I was able to articulate it. At least I’m being given a chance to embrace the pain instead of being afraid to move through it.”
Redolent of The National in their more melancholic moments, it includes such wondrous lyrics as: “I wanted to change the world/But I could not even change my underwear/And when the shit got really, really out of hand/I had it all the way up to my hairline/Which keeps receding like my self-confidence.”
Genius!
