Jetplane Landing - Don't Try
COMEBACK KIDS SCALE NEW HEIGHTS
Derry alt rockers Jetplane Landing went on indefinite hiatus in 2007. They’re back now, with their fourth LP and its a tasty treat indeed. Made in secret over a period of two years and assembled from hundreds of riffs and a full book’s worth of words, the ten track opus is arguably their best work to date. The anthemic ‘Cheapskate Tricks For Worn Down People’ and ‘Walls Of Derry’ are two of the best punk-imbued rock songs I’ve heard all year, while ‘My Radio Heart’ crackles with power-pop goodness.
Elsewhere, the Rage Against The Machine-influenced (and dare we say it, nu metal-ish) ‘The Lightning Bird Blinded By Moonfire’ is an interesting detour, while the heroic ‘Beat Generation...Ha!’ is both a stunning number and a fiery statement of intent which features the fantastic call to arms “Hey maggots get off our turf/ I wrote shit like this fucking years ago.” A comeback record that more than lives up to expectations, Don’t Try sees the perennial plucky contenders return as heavyweight champs. An absolute must-buy.
Key Track: 'Beat Generation...Ha!'
