Jazzing At Midnight
Jazz veterans tackle some of the classics to memorable effect
The Norman Teeling Trio are Teeling on lead guitar, Pat Henry on bass and Philip Rennicks on drums and keyboards. Teeling and Henry have been playing together since the mid ‘60s when they were part of the thriving Dublin blues scene, while Rennicks, a session player and music teacher, once played with 1980s Dublin synth contenders, The Fountainhead. Here they let loose with instrumental versions of a string of classics from the Great American Songbook including Gershwin’s ‘You Can’t Take That Away From Me’, ‘Fascinating Rhythm’ and ‘Summertime’, Charlie Parker’s ‘Scrapple From The Apple’, Cole Porter’s ‘Night And Day’ and the Getz/Gilberto classic ‘Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars’. The musicianship is stellar, (these guys know their chops) while the recording and production is faultless.
