Jamie Dalton releases his debut single 'This Town'
Dublin has a folk-pop newcomer in its midst.
Jamie Dalton has released his debut single 'This Town'.
The song came out on October 3 after being teased on TikTok, where Dalton has posted many videos of him performing covers and original music.
'This Town' was produced by John Reynolds, who also collaborated with Irish legends such as Sinead O'Connor and Damien Dempsey.
The Donaghmede singer says the song is about complex feelings surrounding living in Ireland, especially as a young adult when many people choose to move away for different opportunities, as well as a reflection on the culture of alcohol use as a nation.
"This Town is about my relationship with Ireland, the highs and the lows, and how tough it can be to look at yourself and face the things you’ve been avoiding," says the folk-pop singer. "Watching my mates leave for better opportunities kills me every time. It’s tough seeing people walk away from the place you grew up, but maybe we’re all a bit stuck, blaming everyone else when, really, it’s about taking a hard look at ourselves."
The song speaks from within, expressing feels shared by many young Irish people today. It's completely vulnerable as you feel the pain in his voice.
Earlier this month, he performed a sold-out Whelan's show to celebrate the single's release, with support from Ciúnas and Kyle Tighe. He will be playing a free Halloween gig for Lips2ears at the Fourth Corner pub in the Liberties on October 31. Avenue 68 and Mount Pyrus will also be performing.
