Irish hip-hop artist ‘YAMWAST’ unveils nostalgic 'Pints of Plain' visuals
The visuals weave footage of classic Irish culture, with RTÉ News clips and shots of The Dubliners to John B. Keane and pubs pouring the perfect pints of Guinness.
Kilkenny rapper ‘YAMWAST’ has released the nostalgia-seeped music video for his latest hip-hop track, 'Pints of Plain'.
The track and accompanying visuals are a fly-on-the-wall observation of the lifestyle of a young lad in his early '20s when the weekend comes around. Woven together with various past footage of Ireland's pub culture, the video was directed by Josh Meany and flicks between the old and the new.
It was shot and edited during lockdown and as a result, makes for an interesting contrast between the craic and energy of the pubs with the emptiness which they are now resigned to.
‘YAMWAST’ was inspired by various young men in Kilkenny to create an anonymous, nameless character. The track and its video take us along on his journey from innocent fun with the lads as the evening begins to an eventual darker state by the time the night is over.
It will make you both yearn for the nights out again while being relieved that binge drinking hangovers from dusty, packed pubs are over.
Dublin-based Dollard burst onto the music scene back in 2017 with his concept EP, 'LIVEINSIDEMYHEAD'. Since then, he has released a string of well-received singles and his 2020 album, the 8-track YAMWAST.
