Irish Charts: Villagers and The xx Get Mercury Bounce
Imelda May the biggest winner of all though.
As already reported by Hot Press this morning, Imelda May has become to first Irish female artist to have two albums in the top five. Her second LP, Mayhem, has debuted at #1, while it's predecessor, Love Tattoo, has moved up to #4.
Mercury Music Prize winners, The xx, have re-entered the charts at #14 on the back of their success, while Conor O’Brien and his Villagers have moved up 16 places to #17. Biffy Clyro’s Only Revolutions also benefited from being nominated for the prestigious prize, re-entering the charts at #35.
Two other new entrants have done particularly well this week with Killers frontman Brandon Flowers' solo debut, Flamingo, coming in at #3 while Hurts should be more than pleased that Happiness has charted at #9 in its first week.
The biggest losers are Fight Like Apes whose sophomore record, The Body of Christ and legs of Tina Turner, has slipped from #3 last week to #16.
