Independent stations show strong support, as JNLR figures released
Joe Duffy's figures dropped ahead of his retirement
The latest Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) report showed strong support for independent radio stations.
The 98FM's daytime shows all gained listeners and iRadio also increased its market share to 8.7%. Red FM reached 141,000 daily listeners and Radio Nova remains Dublin’s number one music station while increasing its market share to 9.4%.
According to the new figures, RTÉ’s radio stations collectively hold a 29.2% market share, making them the most listened-to radio group among adults in Ireland.
Morning Ireland retains the title of Ireland’s most popular radio programme with 471,000 listeners, an increase of 2,000 from last year.
RTÉ Radio 1 remains the country’s most popular station, drawing a weekly audience of 1.3 million, while RTÉ 2FM continues to lead among 15–34-year-olds with 714,000 weekly listeners.
RTÉ Radio 1 presenter and comedian Oliver Callan gained the most new listeners with 25,000. The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 also saw growth, increasing its listenership by 11,000 compared to the previous year.
Some popular hosts saw their figures decline since the last JNLR survey: Joe Duffy’s Liveline is down 7,000 listeners, Today with Claire Byrne is down a thousand and Louise Duffy’s audience dropped by 5,000.
