Hot Press Man For Live Literary Interviews
As part of a new 'In Conversation With …' series, Hot Press contributing editor and author Jackie Hayden will talk separately to two acclaimed creative writers at Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, Co. Kildare on Saturday July 24, with Oisín McGann at 3pm and Hugo Hamilton at 8pm. The audience will also be invited to put their own questions to the authors.
OISIN McGANN : Saturday July 24, 3pm. €5
Born in Dublin in 1973, Oisín McGann started writing and illustrating stories when he was seven, setting himself on a path that would steer him well clear of obtaining a proper job. After dropping out of college to become a freelance illustrator/artist he worked on the animated series of Zorro. A spell in advertising made Oisin fearful for his immortal soul and he went freelance again, getting his first books published in 2003. He now works full-time as a writer and illustrator, having published several books for younger readers, including Ancient Appetites and The Evil Hair-Do.
HUGO HAMILTON : Saturday July 24, 8pm. €5
Hugo Hamilton is the internationally-acclaimed author of The Speckled People, about growing up in Dublin in a household where the speaking of English was banned by his nationalist father. It’s been translated into 20 languages and won the prestigious Prix Femina Etranger in France, as well as the Berto Prize in Italy, and appeared on the New York Times' notable books list. His recently-published seventh novel Hand In the Fire has been described as “a highly compelling and original view of contemporary Ireland”.
