How I Became A Wave has announced their self-titled debut album, set for release on March 27.
How I Became A Wave is the project of Pat Carey, formerly of Cork band The Hard Ground. The project focuses on quiet, thoughtful folk music inspired by literature, nature, and artists such as Bon Iver and Big Thief.
The nine-track record features contributions from musicians including former bandmates Davie Ryan and Hugh Dillon, pianist Rory McCarthy, cellists Laura McFadden and Aoife Burke, and multi-instrumentalist Brian Casey, among others.
“At the heart of How I Became A Wave is a sense of collaboration – of connection between artists," says Carey. "Inviting artists of different disciplines into the creative process has been key to the journey.
"Understanding how other people see, hear and feel my work has been enlightening, affirming and vital, making sure that what we have created is a living body of work that I hope will continue to be expressed in changing ways.”
In addition to the album announcement, How I Became A Wave has released their new single, 'Sea Swell', which will feature on the album alongside previously released tracks '05:00', 'Fading Out', and 'Cycles'.
How I Became a Wave will play headline shows at Coughlan’s, Cork, on April 12, and The Unitarian Church, Dublin, on April 17.
Tickets for both gigs are on sale now and can be purchased here.
