Hot for 2020 International Acts: Squid
Hear ‘Houseplants’, a rollicking art-punk track with shades of The Clean and Feelies below.
This indie five-piece from the south of England have their tentacles in a lot of genres (sorry). They can rock out monochrome fashion, like a scruffy Joy Division. But singer Ollie Judge (also the drummer) has an existential yelp one removed from The Rapture (even early LCD Soundsystem). They might put it a different way, recently comparing their sound to: “the Coronation Street theme tune played on flutes by angry children”. That’s what we were going to say, too.
See: Their fantastically chaotic performance of 'Houseplants' tune at Hotel Vegas at last year’s SXSW.
