As Stevie Nicks celebrates her 75th birthday, we're digging into the Hot Press Archives, and revisiting a selection of comments and quotes about the legendary singer and songwriter – taken from interviews with Dave Grohl, Florence + The Machine, and more...
“She was in the Sound City movie I directed and we did a little tour together. Let me tell you, Stevie Nicks gives the best hugs you’ve ever had in your fucking life; like you sink into her heart. And she smells great…
“Greg, who produced that song ['Show Them The Way'] as well, texted me and said, ‘Would you like to put drums on a Stevie Nicks song I just worked on?’ I’d never engineered, recorded and sent a drum track by myself but I learned how to do it from my home studio specifically for that project. I threw it together and crossed my fingers hoping it was good enough. When I heard that song and watched that video, it was a really emotional experience. So, yeah, Stevie Nicks might be a witch but she’s also a fucking angel. I love her!”

On being spotted 'dad-dancing' at Fleetwood Mac's RDS show in June 2019.
“You saw me dancing? Fuck! Stevie announced in front of 40,000 fricking people that I was there. Her dad used to be our promoter in Phoenix – he owns the shed out there – and she’s a massive fan of Hysteria. We also share the same management company, CJM, who have Lenny Kravitz, Jeff Lynne, Chris Isaak, Tesla, Chicago and Boz Scaggs on their books too. She’s as warm and funny and nice and mystical as you’d hope she’d be.”
Florence + The Machine
“My idols? Shirley Manson was my heroine for a while, but when Tragic Kingdom came out I switched my allegiance to Gwen Stefani. I know, fickle! I also love Grace Slick, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks… oh my God, I’d probably pass out if I met Stevie! People say that there aren’t enough female role models in music, but I had plenty as a teenager.”

Author of Daisy Jones and The Six
"I’m completely obsessed with Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. I’ve listened to Rumours I can’t tell you how many times. I’d listen to their later albums and hear a lyric that one of them says and think, ‘WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?’ Then for the purposes of this book, I really studied their work and their interactions, and I became near obsessive about it."
"I learn something from each artist that I work with that I wouldn’t normally have learned. From Stevie Nicks, from Stevie Wonder, from Sam Lewis to Lil Nas X. I learnt something from each of them and if you’re at my age, I’m 74 now, and you can still be learning from other musicians, that’s the greatest gift of all."
