Ghosts
Airbus are the latest in a line of impressive lo-fi, indie electronica bands to raise their heads above the parapet.
Airbus are the latest in a line of impressive lo-fi, indie electronica bands to raise their heads above the parapet.
The musical trademarks (soft chimes, heady vocals and the odd driven, guitary chorus) are clearly tagged, and the seeming compulsory anonymity of the whole venture indulged with pride. Yes – in all their ghostly glory – Airbus are one of the gang.
Musically, although a tad samey here and there, it’s clear that they know their onions. My personal favourite, ‘For This Hour’, features plenty of scratchy vocal effects, seething picked acoustic tracks and an amazing lead guitar, laden with wonky overdrive.
‘Understanding Her’ is dark and melancholic, leaning on close, low harmonies, the odd dischord and deep, breathy rhythms.
Subtle instrumentation, understated melodies and lashings of reverb conspire to make this a genuinely engaging and evocative record.
More, please.
