George sing out in Sydney and beyond
Australian band George played to a global audience last week for the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup
George - the Aussie-band which includes expat Dubliners Katie and Ty Noonan – were watched by an estimated TV audience of one billion last week when they participated in the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup in Sydney.
"It was definitely one of the most important performances of our career," says Ty, a former member of Fab Four copyists The Beatless. "The feeling of being very small in the middle of this huge jam-packed stadium while seeing the big screen footage out of the corner of our eyes was quite surreal. And it's been so amazing to get positive feedback on the gig from all four corners of the globe."
Managed by Stiff Records legend Dave Robinson, George topped the Irish chart at the first time of asking with Polyserena, and release their Unity follow-up in February 2004.
