Gavin Friday teases upcoming project Ecce Homo
The Irish singer previously stated that the album would be "full-on electronic with classical instruments"
In a mysterious post on social media today, Gavin Friday has hinted that an announcement about his long-awaited new album is imminent. Sharing the words Ecce Homo written in Ogham, the Dublin artist encouraged fans to sign up to his mailing list on gavinfriday.com, for further details about the upcoming release.
The renowned singer, songwriter and performer – who first rose to prominence as a founding member of the Virgin Prunes – had previously revealed the album's title back in 2022.
“I’m actually in the studio over the next few weeks finishing it off,” he told the Irish Independent. “The working title at the moment is Ecce Homo. It’s full-on electronic with classical instruments. When will it be out? God knows. Maybe late 2022 or definitely early 2023.”
Ecce Homo is Latin for 'behold the man' – the words credited to Pontius Pilate when presenting Jesus to the crowd just before his crucifixion.
In his social media caption, Gavin wrote the words: "He who is, who was, who is to come" – a reference to both Revelation 1:8, and the Virgin Prunes' 'Beast (Seven Bastard Suck)' from A New Form of Beauty 3 (1981).
The new LP follows 2011's catholic – which was released 16 years after his previous solo album, the acclaimed Shag Tobacco (1995).
The past year has seen the release of the animated film Peter and the Wolf – which featured music and narration by Gavin – as well as classic Virgin Prunes reissues on vinyl.
Stay tuned for further news about Ecce Homo as it comes in...
