Foy Vance announces new album The Wake and documentary short film
The Irish-born singer will play two gigs in Belfast later this year.
Foy Vance has announced his album The Wake to be released March 13 via Rounder Records.
The album is Vance’s last in a series of seven albums released over 26 years in tribute to his late father. A traveling preacher who passed away in 1999, Vance’s father was known to say, “Give me the boy until he is 7, and I will show you the man.”
“After my dad died, everything lined up and I knew I was meant to make seven records akin to those seven years, and that each record would represent a stage of my growth as an artist and a songwriter,” says Vance. “I figured that making seven albums would be the making of me.”
Produced by Brit Award winner Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Ray LaMontagne), The Wake features thirteen tracks written and performed by Vance.
In 2024, Vance won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for 'A Beautiful Game' with Ed Sheeran and Max Martin. The song appeared on the finale of Ted Lasso.
Sketches of the Wake, a 21-minute documentary detailing the album’s creation, will premiere Tuesday, January 20.
New single ‘Hi, I’m the Preacher's Son’ is an autobiographical track composed on Vance’s 50th birthday.
‘Hi, I’m the Preacher’s Son’ follows the release of singles ‘I Think I Preferred The Question’, ‘Call Me Anytime’, and ‘A.I.’, the last of which is a nine-minute lament about artificial intelligence and the necessity of human resistance.
Vance will celebrate the release of his album with five intimate shows, including one in Belfast on March 7. He returns to Belfast on August 15 to play a special show entitled A Celebration of Life with Foy Vance at Custom House Square.
