American alt-pop outfit Foster The People have officially announced their latest album, Paradise State of Mind, expected to release on August 16, 2024,
They’ve also dropped the project’s lead single, ‘Lost In Space,' as well as its accompanying music video.
“The record started as a case study of the late Seventies crossover between disco, funk, gospel, jazz, and all those sounds,” said lead singer Mark Foster in a statement. “It was such a beautiful moment in time, when these different styles of music were cross-referencing each other — artists like Nile Rogers and Chic, the Tom Tom Club, and Giorgio Moroder.”
Foster The People formed in California in 2009 and first rose to prominence with their debut 2011 album Torches.
The record contained the mammoth hit ‘Pumped Up Kicks’, which currently sits at 1.7 billion streams on Spotify alone. The tune is famed for its instantly recognisable indie guitar riff and lyrics detailing teenage mental illness, with many interpreting the song to contain references to school shootings.
The band subsequently released two more LPs, 2014’s Supermodel and 2017’s Sacred Hearts Club.
