Flying Lotus announces EP Big Mama

Flying Lotus has announced his seven-track EP Big Mama, set for release on March 6. Big Mama marks Flying Lotus' debut release at his own record label Brainfeeder.

He also shared the EP trailer, describing the upcoming release as "experimental, maximalist, hyperfast, electronic burst of energy".

"As we get into a place where tracks are becoming more ‘perfect’ and things are becoming more sterile, I want to try to keep it interesting and try to keep bringing in things that are uniquely human to electronic music, which is, you know, becoming harder I guess," he added.

Grammy-winning producer, DJ, and song-writer Flying Lotus founded his Los Angeles-based record label Brainfeeder in 2008. Around the same time, he released his debut album 1983, and started producing much of Adult Swim's bumper music under alter ego Captain Murphy. Since then, he has gone on to produce records from many acclaimed artists like Thundercat, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Kamasi Washington.

In the recent years, he directed and scored a segment for the found footage horror anthology film V/H/S 99, the Netflix anime series Yasuke, as well as the theme for Apple TV's docuseries about American basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson, titled They Call Me Magic.

Flying Lotus released his Spirit Box EP, featuring Dawn Richard and Sid Sriram in 2024. From there, he went on to direct and score the science fiction film Ash, staring Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Eiza González (3 Body Problem) a year later.
