Recorded in the same Ardent, Memphis studios where Big Star first took flight, W.P.A. have the same ramshackle, acoustic, Southern charm as R.E.M. without ever quite matching the latter’s sense of myth and mystery. Still this is a likeable domestic tale which defines both its strengths and limits by its modesty.
