Elecrtic Picnic mainman John Reynlods has declared this year's event a sell-out.
“It was a really tough week with the weather,” he told Hot Press, “and there were lots of late nights. We had to change the car parks around because of the rain, which put everyone under a lot of pressure. But the first two days have been a brilliant success. To have sold out despite the the recession is a great achievement. I’m really pleased.”
On the afternoon of the second day, Reynolds was forecasting that the legendary Chic would be one of the festival highpoints – and he was proven correct when Nile Rodgers and his crew turned in a superb and hugely crowd pleasing performance in the Electric Arena. The Chic maestro’s only gaffe was when – in his efforts to get the crowd going – he offered a Spinal Tap-esque “Hello Dublin” to the bemused Stradbally crowd. But did they mind? Hell, no, they danced like demons through a slick and highly impressive disco set.

Other highlights of Day 2 included Tommy Tiernan on the comedy stage. Tiernan also turned in a hugely funny and irreverent performance in the Hot Press Chat Room, in an interview conducted by Olaf Tyaransen.
