Dum Dum Girls play Dublin
The '60s-worshipping L.A. outfit are in Whelan's.
Dum Dum Girls nip in on May 18 for a show in Whelan’s.
Initially a one-woman band consisting of L.A. resident Dee Dee, they’ve subsequently morphed into a fully-fledged trio and signed to the legendary Sub Pop label.
The first fruit of that liaison is I Will Be, a “short tribute to love, fun and the classic pop form of the ‘60s girl groups and early punk rockers.”
It’s a pretty accurate description with tracks like ‘Bhang, Bhang I’m A Burnout’ and ‘Rest Of Our Lives’ sounding like the Shangri-Las if they’d wandered into a Jesus & Mary Chain gig by mistake.
Underlining their impeccable ‘60s fan credentials is the cover of Sonny & Cher’s ‘Baby Don’t Go’.
