DOWNLOAD: New EP from KaraKara

Slipped out just before Christmas but deserving to stay on everybody's radar in 2013, Born Thug/Raised Nerd is the new 4-tracker from Dublin producer Kieran Dold, aka KaraKara.

The 22 year-old says it's an album about "duality, what is expected of you vs what you can actually deliver". What he has delivered is a quartet of fine electronic tunes.

A concise exercise in sonic muscle-flexing and melodic discovery, it shirks the more cutesy elements of chiptune for something more powerful. From the relentless title track to the well-chosen 'Don't Dream It's Over' sampling on 'Hey Now/Hey Now', and on to the exotic R&B inflections of the closer, the EP is well worth a listen.

It's free to download but throwing a few euro toward the artist via the 'name your price' link is always the better option for lovers of independent Irish music. Plus, 50% of all money made goes towards the 2013 DIT Visual Communications Graduate Show.
