Dolly Parton musical to open on Broadway

A musical celebrating Dolly Parton's life and career will open on Broadway in January 2027, with previewing starting in December.

DOLLY: A True Original Musical, billed as “a remarkable journey through the life of this trailblazing woman” and featuring some of her biggest hits, was announced in a video featuring the singer.

“This isn’t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside,” Dolly said. “It’s about where I really come from: where I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved and how I’ve found my way and told it in my own words and and through the music that’s been part of me every step of the journey.”

In a press statement, Parton described the upcoming production as a "dream come true."

“My whole life has been a musical,” she said. “A grand ole opera really! We have a wonderful director, sets, costumes, choreography, music and all the things you need to make a wonderful, entertaining show! Can’t wait to see you there!”

In March, the country singer made her first public appearance of the year following the death of her husband Carl Dean, who she was married to for 58 years.

Before this, she celebrated her 80th birthday by releasing a special new version of her 1977 song 'Light Of A Clear Blue Morning'.

The updated recording featured an all-star line-up including Queen Latifah, Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson, and Parton’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus. U2 frontman Bono also surprised Parton by sending a bagpiper to play for her on her 80th birthday.
