David Bowie episode of Hot Press Classics out now - feat. Gail Ann Dorsey
Nothing’s gonna touch Paul Nolan & Donny Keane in these golden years, as they revisit David Bowie’s 1976 masterpiece Station To Station, exactly 50 years to the day of its original release. Plus an interview with Bowie’s long-time bassist, Gail Ann Dorsey.
Hot Press Classics is back for another year as it explores David Bowie's legendary record Station To Station - which celebrates its 50th anniversary today.
In this episode, Paul Nolan and special guest Donny Keane pay homage to the late legend as we also celebrate the 10th anniversary of his death and of his brilliant last record Black Star, and remember the news of his passing and the cultural significance of the album.
The duo also discuss the consistency of Bowie's discography throughout the decades, how reclusive he was in the last few years of his life, as well as his place as a trailblazing artist all throughout his career.
Elsewhere, Keane and Nolan explore Bowie's international superstardom, his lifelong issues with mental health, and the theatricality of his live shows.
Speaking of Station To Station, the duo examine the drug-fuelled writing process of the record, Bowie's talent for putting together an all-star band and the visionary quality of the piece.
To wrap up the podcast, we bring back an interview from our deputy editor Stuart Clark with legendary bassist and long-time Bowie collaborator Gail Ann Dorsey where she discusses duetting Bowie on the live version 'Under Pressure', their many gigs in Dublin over the years, and the tragedy of Bowie's passing.
Find out about all this and more in today's episode, produced by Paul Nolan and edited by Flo Laurent.
