Damien Dempsey announces six nights at Vicar Street this December

Following his lauded Iveagh Gardens gigs earlier this month, Damien Dempsey has announced his a six-night run at Vicar Street in Dublin – on December 16, 17, 19, 20, 22 and 23.

Ahead of the Dublin gigs, he's also set to play Leisureland in Galway on December 9.

The Dublin singer-songwriter's annual run of shows at Vicar Street are an unmissable part of the run-up to Christmas for his fans. Sometimes nicknamed 'Church of Damo', the beloved December gigs were captured in Ross Killeen's acclaimed film Love Yourself Today, released in 2021.

Speaking to Hot Press at the time of the release, Ross reflected on his first time attending one of Damien's Vicar Street shows in December.

“I spent the whole gig watching the crowd,” he said, "watching Damo, watching the crowd, watching Damo. I’m a massive music fan. I’ve been to many gigs down the years. But I’d never been to anything like I saw that night... The gig starts off and everyone’s spirit lifts, everyone’s singing along, and then it just went into this bit in the middle where everyone opens up emotionally, and everyone’s in bits.

"Then Damo brings everyone up at the end of the gig, and everyone feels amazing," he continued. "Something just happens in that room. I walked out feeling like I had been spiritually cleansed. I really believed in everything Damo was doing. He was thriving on the energy of the crowd. It was this shared experience, as the energy in the room was created and held and shared.”

Earlier this year, Damien teamed up with acclaimed Irish writer and director Conor McPherson to present the world premiere of Tales from the Holywell at the Abbey Theatre.
