Kildare quintet’s bounce not enough
Reemo’s debut album is a mix of mid-tempo guitar rock that wouldn’t sound out of place at a Saturday night pub gig and big ballads. And, to be honest, the lyrics are a real weak point (“Can you see the monster running in my head/Can you hear the monster telling me I’m dead”, etc.) The album’s saving grace is its smattering of uptempo tunes: the Blizzards-esque ‘Dancing Lights’ is one of the few songs that splashes colour onto the grey palette and is perhaps the track with the most radio airplay potential, while ‘Cuba: Part 2’ boasts a rather nifty vocal breakdown. The Kildare band have already appeared on TG4’s Deis Roc, supported Aslan on one of their Irish tours, and won an international Battle of the Bands competition in the USA. But if they want to progress in artistic terms, they’ll have to seriously up their game.
