Carroll Back Catalogue Reissued
One of Ireland’s great unsung talents, Marc Carroll, has his 2003 – 2009 Ten Of Swords, All Wrongs Revered, World On A Wire and Dust Of Rumour solo albums re-released this week by them nice folk at One Little Indian.
A former member of Puppy Love Bomb and The Hormones, the Dubliner has been lauded along the way by two of his heroes, Bob Dylan and Brian Wilson, but due to a mixture of bad luck and record company incompetence has never scored the commercial breakthrough he so richly deserves.
“When I wrote my first songs over twenty years ago, an eye for the main chance wasn’t on my mind,” he reflects. “When I wrote the songs that made up my last record, it still wasn’t. I care only for the music, not the industry behind it. But, and it’s a big but, along with the music or inspiration from the lives of other musicians comes the inevitable need to survive. The bread and butter. The need to make a living. Joy from the music but the trials of an industry. My own story cluttered by companies like Rough Trade, Universal or Virgin, though occasional solace along the journey provided by individuals who try to work outside of that.”
