Caitriona Balfe picks up People’s Choice Award
Dublin actress collects Favourite Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Actress gong
Dublin actress Caitriona Balfe was celebrating last night, after picking up the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress.
At last night’s ceremony in Los Angeles, the former model saw her efforts in Outlander earn her the hardware. The show also won in the category of Favourite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show.
Outlander sees WWII nurse Claire Randall’s life changed forever as she is somehow mysteriously transported back in time to life in 1743 Scotland. Outlander debuted in August of 2014 on American premium cable Starz and Balfe has gained praise for her performance as the shows main protagonist.
This weekend sees Balfe join Saoirse Ronan, Michael Fassbender and Lenny Abrahamson among a considerable Irish contingent at the Golden Globes, where she's nominated for Best Performance in a Drama Television Series. And after all that, she'll have a chance to pick up further mantle decorations here at home, as she's also in the running to win two IFTAs.
Outlander is expected to return for its second series in April 2016, but if that’s too long a wait you can catch Balfe starring alongside George Clooney in feature film Money Monster - that hits screens on March 31st.
