Blood or Whiskey - Tell The Truth And Shame The Devil
Trad Punks' new album is devilishly good
Tell The Truth And Shame The Devil is the euphoric self-financed, new album from iconic trad-punks Blood Or Whiskey. They are clearly back at their bombastic best. Nine years on from their last full length outing (Cashed Out On Culture), the Leixlip-born six-piece have introduced ska, reggae and dub sounds into their Irish trad and punk-based mix.
Opening with the call to arms ‘Dirty Aul War’, any concern that Blood Or Whiskey might have softened are immediately laid to rest. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones-like ‘Gone And Forgotten’ is a future live classic in the making; trumpet-infused ‘Emigrant’ is a joyous folk punk anthem; and ‘Seanie O’Keefe’ features a welcome injection of dub. Fans of Rancid, The Clash and Dropkick Murphys should pick this up asap. It’s a diabolically good listen.
