“I recorded a cover of ‘I Get Around’ a few years ago,” Armstrong said on Instagram. “Never got to share it.”
Green Day guitarist and vocalist Billie Joe Armtrong has shared a cover of the Beach Boys’ 1964 iconic track ‘I Get Around’ in tribute to Brian Wilson.
Sharing the song on Instagram this Wednesday, following the news of Wilson’s passing, Armstrong wrote: “Thank you Brian Wilson. I recorded a cover of ‘I Get Around’ a few years ago.. never got to share it. One of my all time favorite songs ever.”
Originally released in May 1964 ‘I Get Around’ would go on to become the group’s first song to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100, which they would achieve twice more in the ’60s with ‘Help Me, Rhonda’ and ‘Good Vibrations’ – and another time in 1988 with of ‘Kokomo’.
