Believe In Nothing
This is the eighth album from Paradise Lost, since they formed in 1989. Musically, they work from the basic rock/metal template, incorporating wonky intro sounds with plenty of dynamics and soaring guitarry solos into a tight structure.
And it all works rather well. Track number seven, 'Divided', mixes string orchestration with smooth, heady vocals, reminiscent of Metallica's James Hetfield, on a backdrop of steady beats and bassline. 'Never Again' fuses a jazzy piano track with several ominous distorted guitar chords and a string quartet...
On Believe In Nothing alternative sounds infiltrate the music without dominating it, giving Paradise Lost a new musical dimension through complementary arrangement and vivid tone, so often neglected by bands of a heavier disposition.
Although quite some distance from their earlier death metal material, Believe In Nothing is well worth a listen.
