BBC DJ Sara Cox criticises Pitbull
The BBC Radio 2 presenter criticised the station for playing the rapper's sexist and misogynistic music.
In an interview with Radio Times, BBC Radio's Sara Cox lashed out at rapper Pitbull for the sexist themes prevalent in his lyrics and criticised her employer for playing his music.
“Someone like Pitbull on Radio 1 makes my soul weep with the way he sings about women," Cox told the publication. "I just couldn’t bear playing that.”
The Miami rapper has rocketed to international success in recent years, most recently featuring on 'We are One', the official song of the 2014 World Cup, but has received criticism for the content of his lyrics throughout his career.
BBC has released a statement regarding the situation.
“Each track is considered for the playlist based on its musical merit and whether it is right for our young audience, with decisions made on a case-by-case basis.”
