Bang
Sun-kissed thrills from perky newcomers
Superjimenez’s debut offering Bang is a little slice of summer just when we need it most. A track like the superbly sunny ‘Promises’ can’t but help lift your mood. If absence makes the heart grow fonder, Superjimenez’s enforced separation (visa issues: lead guitarist Rhys was temporarily turfed back to Australia!) has certainly rubbed off on this upbeat, pacey, pop-lead delight.
They’re reunited, they’re happy, and they’ll make you want to clap your hands and say yeah. Having enlisted further reinforcements in the form of UK producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Maccabees, Feeder) the band have firmly set out their musical stall: Faye’, ‘Helicopters’ and ‘Beau’ are all bright, shiny, sparkling – and highly impressive to boot. ‘Hear You Now’ and ‘Rescue Remedy’ may be a bit too middle of the road for my taste, but those are aberrations. And to seal the deal, the more reflective tunes like ‘My Word’ prove these lads aren’t just one trick, fast striding ponies. Superjimenez: shiny, happy and here with a Bang.
Key track: ‘Promises’
