Ash announce special event to mark 30th anniversary of their classic debut 1977
Released on May 6 1996, the album features Ash's classic hits like 'Kung Fu', 'Girl from Mars', and 'Angel Interceptor'.
Ash have announced an event celebrating 30 years of their album 1977. Set to take place at Belfast's Oh Yeah Music Centre on May 6, the night will include an intimate live acoustic set, featuring songs from the record.
MC'd by BBC Music Introducing radio show host Taylor Johnson, the event will look back at the band's career, exploring stories and inspirations behind their music.
1977 is Ash's debut studio album, released on May 6 1996 via Home Grown and Infectious Records. Featuring tracks such as 'Kung Fu', 'Girl from Mars', and 'Angel Interceptor', the album was recorded by Owen Morris at Rockfield Studios in Wales.
Formed in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton, and drummer Rick McMurray, Ash have released a total of nine studio albums. In October 2025 they shared Ad Astra, which was followed by an extensive Irish tour, stopping at Galway's Róisín Dubh, Cork's Cyprus Avenue, Dublin's The Academy, and more.
Last month, McMurray announced the release of his solo project Burned As Witches and a self-titled album, which came out on Friday, April 17.
We talked to Ash about and their career and the release of Ad Astra in December 2025. Check it out here.
