It’s hard to believe that one of the most critically acclaimed bands on the go today is being accused of ripping off a struggling Spanish band.
But Spanish social media has gone into overdrive with claims that Arcade Fire’s lead single from their new album ‘Everything Now’ is very similar to ‘La Gran Ciudad’ (‘The Big City’) by a band called Templeton.
Spanish fans of the band have now accused Arcade Fire of “ripping off” the 2014 release by Templeton, and the band themselves are even joking about suing for millions!
On their Twitter page, Templeton have shared the two songs and boasted in Spanish: “After this we can retire, one million each and we’re settled.”
While the Spanish group have also gone on the record with the following statement: "We found out as soon as we listened to the song, the day of the premiere. The similitude was pretty obvious so we all thought about it.
“Also, a lot of people who follow our music started discussing about it on the internet. We felt quite surprised… I mean, the first time you hear it it’s like ‘wow, that’s pretty similar, and they are one of the biggest bands on the planet.’”
Arcade Fire have yet to publicly comment about the claims yet.
