Anthony Gibney announces Dublin gigs
Dublin singer-songwriter Anthony Gibney has announced two Dublin gigs over the coming weeks, along with a radio session and Fringe show.
With his band The Durrty Stopouts he will headline in The Bleu Note, Dublin on September 24, and on September 28 Anthony will perform at the Sunday Roast 5th birthday party in Thomas Reids, Dublin.
In the run-up to both gigs, September 18 sees him performing on Dublin South FM 93.9FM @ 8 pm.
Meanwhile Gibney, an in-demand session player, will handle guitar duties for singer/songwriter Lisa McLaughlin for two dates:
September 10: The Fringe Festival, The Iveagh Gardens, Dublin.
September 20: The Tivoli Theatre, The Iveagh Gardens, Dublin.
More recently he and Ross Nelson (bass) helped out fellow rock band ITO by filling in for their guitar and bass player for a rocking three-hour set in The Mezz in Dublin.
Hot Press says:
"Anthony Gibney seems hellbent on dispelling the notion that singer-songwriters only do introspective pieces with acoustic guitars. 'Standing In the Darkness' is a tough pop track with a catchy chorus, electric guitar riffs and a tight rhythm section. Gibney is a talented writer and singer with wit to avoid the obvious, but without straying far from the beaten track." -Jackie Hayden
"The Kildare man stakes an impressive claim with this debut single. He may be a young Irish male with a guitar - but this ain't no maudlin nu-hippie schlock. 'Standing In The Darkness' is an exciting, highly-charged, Stevie Ray Vaughan like Blues number, complete with a dirty Sabbath-style riff underlying Gibney's raw, soulful vocal. Great stuff." - Stephen Errity
