Andy White gives peace a chance
Andy White's important new album forges the way forward for Irish folk music
Andy White gets orchestra-handed on Boy 40, his 12th international release which hits the racks on September 29.
Inspired by his formative years in Belfast, it features 'Tell Me Why', 'Faithful', 'Twelfth Of July', 'Italian Girls', 'Can't Hold Back', 'The Fortune Teller's Right', 'When Will You Learn', 'The Pain Behind Your Heart', 'Hunger For Your Love', 'Lisa', 'If I Catch You Crying', 'Everything You've Got', 'Morning Star' and 'Trying To See Good'.
"I grew up hearing folk music dividing people into one side or the other," he reflects. "I wanted to write a new folk music for my country. Uniting our traditions with the rock music we loved and the new political future we hoped for. I started off writing poems and then picked up an acoustic guitar when I heard John Lennon sing 'Give Peace A Chance'. Put them both together, that's all."
To coincide, White plays the Errigle Inn, Belfast (October 19) and Whelan's, Dublin (31).
