Album Review: The Offspring, Supercharged
Veteran punks in electrifying form. 8/10
The SoCal punk scene is enjoying a hell of a renaissance right now. With both Green Day and Blink-182 recently releasing some of the best records of their careers, all eyes are now on The Offspring, AKA the third member of The Big Three. Re-energised after lockdown thanks to the arrival of new tub thumper Brandon Pertzborn, Supercharged is aptly named – it’s a fast and furious blast of feelgood music for these bad times.
Re-teaming with insanely successful producer Bob Rock, The Offspring’s 11th album is a ridiculously fun listen. The likes of the lightning fast ‘Truth In Fiction’ is a riot that will be adored by lovers of Stranger Than Fiction-era Bad Religion, while old school fans will also enjoy instant mosh pit anthem ‘Light It Up’.
Elsewhere the tongue in cheek, metal and punk mash-up ‘Come To Brazil’ has hit written all over it. Ever the crowd-pleasers, Dexter, Noodles and co. end the song with an amped-up refrain of “Ole ole ole”, which will no doubt go down a storm live.
Overall, a fantastic effort.
8/10
