Album Review: Blink-182, One More Time...
Resurrection men back with a roar. 8/10
While these infamously combustible pop-punk icons have had more break-ups and make-ups than a Love Island montage, Blink-182's millions of fans have always stood by them. One More Time…, the band’s second stab at a reunion record, definitely rewards their loyalty: it’s one of the most explosive albums they’re ever made.
Brought back together after another near-death experience, Blink sound like a band reborn and eager to make up for lost years. A catchy, confessional and at times surprisingly bloodthirsty listen (the Dwarves-style bullish punk songs are most welcome), the record is a riot.
Returning singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge, who replaces seat-warmer Matt Skiba, sounds fired up. The trio are pretty fearless when it comes to facing up to their dysfunction (‘Childhood’) and singer/bassist Mark Hoppus’ successful battle with cancer (“Do I have to die to hear you miss me?” they muse on the wonderful title track).
Drummer and album producer Travis Barker has done an excellent job getting everyone on the same page. Indeed, the likes of the 27-second ‘F*ck Face’ - co-penned by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong - and the synth-spiced ‘Blink Wave’ have us hoping the boys are back for good.
8/10
