Album Review: Susan O'Neill, Now In A Minute
Stellar solo offering from Clare songsmith. 9/10
‘Timeless’ is a term often thrown around without much consideration of its true meaning. However, Susan O’Neill’s Now In A Minute is just that. The singer’s first solo album since 2018’s Found Myself Lost – and first LP since her lauded full-length collaboration with Mick Flannery, In The Game – Now In A Minute forges its own path through dark indie-folk.
Indeed, it’s a concise piece of work that reveals O’Neill at her most layered. Enigmatic opener ‘Apparitions’ has the tranquil vibes of Yo La Tengo, with the atmospheric ‘Sign Of The Times’ proving equally superb. Raspy lullaby ‘Tijuana’ is a further highlight – a nylon-string reverie that’s as beautiful as they come.
Like other indie-folk sirens Niamh Regan and Lisa Hannigan before her, the album sees O’Neill firmly set out her stall as one of the country’s top singer-songwriters. A wonderfully realised offering, Now In A Minute is the work of an artist at the top of her game.
9/10
