Album Review: Snõõper, Worldwide
Blistering effort from Nashville punks. 8/10
Hailed as one of the hottest acts in the underground, these egg punks (yes, it’s a thing) have served up a seriously tasty new album, which could see them take over the mainstream. Viewed by the puppet-loving twosome as their proper debut (2023’s Super Snõõper was essentially a compilation of old singles), Worldwide is crammed with more short, sharp shocks than a dodgy air fryer.
Calling to mind a less feral version of fellow Nashvillians Be Your Own Pet, Snõõper are throwing a party where everyone is invited. Fuelled by an urge to experiment and grow as music makers, and emboldened by the experience of working with a producer (John Congleton) for the first time, Worldwide is the band turned up to 11.
‘Opt Out’ is a thriller boasting riffs like razor blades, while the title track has serious radio hit potential. Best of all is ‘Blockhead’ – played at breakneck speed, it owes a debt to the Misfits and is sure to be a pit anthem.
8/10
